Carrie Ann Schmitz
I have been married for 23 years (Mr. Schmitz is a 7th grade math teacher at RHMS). We have two wonderful children, Tanner -21 and Taylor -18 1/2. Tanner just graduated from GCU Honors College with a degree in forensics and a minor in Spanish, and Taylor is a freshman at Colorado Mesa University studying psychology. As a family, we enjoy traveling, hiking, playing games, and watching movies. In my free-time I enjoy reading, running/working out, spending time with friends, and listening to music.
I attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa and received a BA in Spanish/Sociology and Anthropology. During my senior year of college, I did a study abroad program in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Loving the culture there, I decided to return to Bolivia after graduation where I taught English for 2 years. After returning from Bolivia, I attended UNC in Greeley in order to get my post-baccalaureate teaching license. In 2002, I went back to UNC and earned my MA in Elementary Education.
I started my teaching career in 2000, working in an elementary school here in Highlands Ranch. I taught 3rd grade for 8 years, and then taught GT and reading/writing intervention. In 2012, our family moved to Costa Rica, where I taught English at a private girls' school. We loved our year in Costa Rica, but we were happy to return to the states for the following school year. In 2013, I began teaching K-6th grade Spanish. Teaching Spanish had always been my dream! In 2017, I was hired here at RHMS and truly feel like I have found my "home away from home" here.
