I've been an art teacher at Rocky Heights Middle School since 2006, and I feel so lucky to be here. My son attended Rocky Heights and now goes to Rock Canyon. As a mom, I know firsthand the positive impact our schools have. This perspective guides my teaching, and I strive to treat your child the way I hope someone will treat my own.

My personal adventures—like backpacking in Europe, spending a summer in Ghana, West Africa, and a recent family trip to Japan—bring a global perspective to my classroom. My love for athletics and the Colorado outdoors also inspire my lessons. I believe art is woven into every part of our world, so I integrate art history to help students connect with everything from famous masterpieces to pop culture.

My greatest joy is watching students discover their creative voice and amaze themselves with what they can create. I want my classroom to be a welcoming space where every student feels encouraged to explore and find their unique identity. It is truly a privilege to teach art and help middle schoolers express who they are.

You can reach me at Lori.King@dcsdk12.org. Please don’t hesitate to reach out. I will get back to you within twenty-four hours.

While we have a Google Classroom for each of my classes, I don’t post a lot of material because our work is very hands-on. If a student misses a day, it is best for them to just ask what they missed. They might have missed a demonstration, expectations for a new assignment, or work time.

I will be hosting an after-school Art Club second quarter. Sign-up will start mid to late September on MySchoolBucks. I will put announcements on the school news when it opens. Art Club is very popular and always sells out fast.

We also have an online art gallery if you’d like to see what we’re doing in class! For students who participated in Artsonia at Buffalo Ridge Elementary or Wildcat Mountain Elementary, I will do my best to continue to take pictures of your student’s work and post them to our Artsonia gallery. You can visit our gallery here.

Ms. Karla Robledo-Barba

Hello RHMS! My name is Karla Robledo, and I am one of the two art teachers at Rocky Heights Middle School.

After growing up in the Vail Valley and graduating from high school, I attended Colorado Mesa University and received my BFA in Art Education K-12.  Taught for six years and took on graduate school, receiving my M. Ed. Educational Leadership this past May from Regis University.  I love being active and even ran my first marathon in May earlier this year!  This will be my fifth year being a Nighthawk staff member, coaching, and being a club sponsor have been one of my highlights at RHMS.  We love that our students are involved in a variety of after-school activities and have an opportunity to build even greater relationships with them.  Art is what I love to do more than anything, and I am beyond excited to share my passion for art.  I can’t wait to get to know your students and help them learn in an expressive and positive environment!
