Electives
Exciting Changes Coming to RHMS Electives!
Rocky Heights Middle School is excited to be part of the Colorado and Douglas County School District initiative to expand Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities into middle school.
Beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, electives taught by teachers who have earned their CTE endorsement will begin transitioning to courses that help students develop the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed for success in high school, college, and future careers.
What You'll Notice
Updated Course Names
As courses transition to CTE, some familiar electives will have new names. For example:
- Yearbook/E-Pub → CTE Digital Art and Design C
- NHTV News → CTE Media and Communications C
While some course titles are changing, students can still expect engaging, hands-on learning experiences. These updated courses are aligned with Colorado and DCSD CTE pathways and provide opportunities for students to apply their creativity, problem-solving, communication, and technical skills in ways that mirror real-world professions.
This is an exciting step forward in preparing our students to explore their interests, discover potential career pathways, and build valuable skills for the future—all while continuing to enjoy the creative and engaging electives they know and love.
