January

January 7th, 2021

Dear Gifted and Talented Students and Families,

I want to start by wishing you a very happy, and healthy, New Year! We know that 2020 was a challenge for all of us, but we are optimistic and hopeful for a wonderful 2021.

As your GT student begins navigating the second semester, we will be asking content teachers to check in with all students regarding their academic and social-emotional goals they set at the beginning of September. We would ask that as parents and guardians you do the same. Some students have made great progress toward their goals. Other students may feel like their goals took a “back seat” as they were faced with the ever-changing learning environments this school year threw their way. Please encourage your student that no matter where he or she is in this journey, there is still plenty of time to make great gains in both their academic and social emotional growth. And we are always here to support them!

As mid-January rolls around we will be asking Team Time teachers to take all GT students through a mid-year progress report activity. This activity will ask students to reflect, specifically, on where they are with their goals, identify next steps in making progress, and provide any evidence they may have to demonstrate growth and/or progress. Some students may even find that they need to make small adjustments to their goals, and that is great too! If you would like to see your student’s progress monitoring reflection it can be accessed in the grade-level GT Google classroom or in your student’s Google Drive.

Our entire RHMS GT team is always here to help and support you. Please reach out if you have any follow-up questions.

Best,
