This week, students will complete their 3rd and final blog post for their independent reading books. As part of this post, they will summarize an informational text related to their book, focusing on main ideas, key supporting details, and text structure.
Students will also begin planning an expository essay in response to the unit’s essential questions. They will develop a thesis and support their ideas using evidence from three texts read this quarter. The planning process will be completed this week, and students will write their essays after the break.
In Advanced Language Arts, students will respond to the question: How do we evolve over the course of a journey? In Language Arts, students will explore the question: Why do we take chances? Both groups will craft thesis statements and use textual evidence to support their arguments.

This week we are working on the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark Expedition. We will be looking at some maps, and then watching a video while completing a viewing guide. Students will then create a postcard from the perspective of a member of the Corp of Discovery.

*Study Guide for Punnett Squares and Asexual vs. Sexual Reproduction
*Pedigree Chart notes/worksheets
*Quizlet: Genetics

Students who are not here to take the test on Wednesday or Thursday this week will need to take the test after break. They would receive an “I” for their content knowledge grade for 2nd quarter and that grade would be updated after the test is completed.
