Rocky Heights leads the way in Middle School Education. The dedicated staff, and supportive community work together to ensure the safe, rigorous, supportive learning environment our students deserve.
I am genuinely excited for this new school year with each and every one of you. RHMS is a dynamic,
highly energetic, and joyful school, and my greatest hope is that you find it to be a warm, supportive,
welcoming place for learning and growth. By definition, learning should be a challenging endeavor and
we have worked to provide you with a kind, caring, collaborative place for what will be your “gift of
struggle” in middle school. You can expect great things from us – the faculty and staff – and we will
expect great things from you as well. Rocky Heights is YOUR school. You, the students, are the heart
and soul of the school, and every decision we make is tied directly to you and your best interests. As
your principal, it is my responsibility to ensure that Rocky Heights is a place where all kids come ready to
think, be intellectually challenged, and where all kids are expected to put forth maximum effort in
pursuit of personal growth and the unique journey through adolescence. I will expect to get your best
effort daily, and you can expect the same from me as well.
I want you to know what a truly remarkable place Rocky Heights Middle School is. Over the course of
every day, we think hard, work hard, and laugh hard. RHMS is a safe, productive and academically
rigorous place where we take the idea of joy in learning very seriously. Throughout your time here you
will watch yourself get smarter, more organized, more self-sufficient, and you’ll be amazed at how far
you can and will grow. Being “Smart” is not about memorizing facts and rules, not about blindly
following directions you’ve been handed. Rather, being smart is about what you do when you don’t
immediately know an answer, understanding how to question, how to explore, how to engage with the
world on your own, self-regulate, and push yourself to become better.
I hope you choose to get involved at Rocky Heights. We have wonderful athletic teams, theater
performances, music groups, clubs, activities, and student leadership opportunities. They are the things
that make school a rich and joyful experience. Push yourself, challenge yourself, try something new,
make new connections and form new life-long friendships. Being a RHMS Nighthawk will be something
that you will remember for the rest of your life.
